When everything is going good in life, things sometimes happen in such a way that they turn our entire life upside down. Sara had a great life going for her. Very supportive family with two small children and a dog kept her on her toes all the time. They had just bought a new home and move in three months back. The interiors were yet to be done as well as the garden. They had paid up everything they had saved for the home loan and hence things had to wait for a while to be attended to.
It was a localized pain in the chest along with a sense of vomiting and nausea that first caught her attention that something could be wrong. She was just thirty eight years old and was quite healthy. First she thought it was due to the strain of overwork and hence ignored it. But when the pain started reoccurring and became constant and she started getting blinding headaches, there was no other option but to see the family physician. With so many tests and diagnostic procedures Sara was still unaware of what was happening. After a few days she got a call from her physician who wanted her to see another doctor, a specialist in the city hospital. It was at the meeting with the specialist that she came to know the truth. She had an estrogen dependant cancer which was in the initial stages.
So what do you think went through her as she walked out of the hospital to the parking lot? She had not noticed people earlier and passed by without giving much of a glance. Now on her return she suddenly seemed to notice all the patients with different expressions on their face.
Naturally like any normal patient Sara felt as if the sky had come crashing on her and there wasn’t going to be another tomorrow. "What about my small children my lord? Why Me? This cannot be true. I have been a good Christian. This cannot happen to me" she kept thinking.
Sara quickly called her sister and asked her to drive over to her home and look after the children for a few hours. Then she called her husband and told him the news. Assuring him that she was going to be alright and needed time alone by herself, she drove down to the church and sat praying for a long time. Power of prayer is something incredible. Only those who know the art of praying know it to be true that the lord answers them. Two hours went in tears, fear, thinking about future of her little children, husband and the family and all the normal reactions that one would go through.
When finally her heart was empty and she had poured out everything, there was a sense of peace. She heard the inner voice from within her telling her that now is the time for her to make a choice. Either to fight with all her will or to give in and let cancer take over her body. She of course chose to go with the lord and decided to fight with all her will and asked god to be with her in her fight.
The next few weeks she was put on a combination of hormonal treatment along with a few sessions of radiation. She was advised Nolvadex which was one of the most successful treatments available for estrogen dependant cancer cases. The Nolvadex acts as an inhibitor barring contact between estrogen and the cancer thereby starving the cancer tissues which eventually die down.
Now after one year has passed and Sara's life is back to normal. She is busy looking after and managing her home, family and children. She doesn't forget to thank the lord everyday for the miracle in her life.
So you too have a choice to make, to fight cancer or to give in. Fight you should and as Sara did pray to the Lord to be with you in your fight against cancer.
